The term ‘headhunting’ is often misconstrued, so to put it simply, at Elmwood, we use a research driven headhunting process to identify potential candidates without the use of advertising or networking, and it is effectively used to find very specific people against a very specific brief.

Traditionally it is often thought that headhunting is only used for board level roles, but actually it can be utilised for more than that. It is a most effective tool for highly specialised, technical and mid-management roles. These can sometimes be the most difficult positions to fill.

Headhunting or executive search should be used to recruit for roles that are:

  • Highly competitive and where it is difficult to attract the best people. Often the best people aren’t actively looking and therefore won’t respond to an advertisement.

  • Require a specific or niche skill set. Targeted advertising is costly with no guarantee that it will be               seen by the right people.
  • Highly confidential. Networking and advertising are risky options here.

The research process is logical, linear and clearly defined so all parties can keep up to date on the       progress of each assignment at all times. It is broken down into segments – detailed specification, target company lists, target candidate lists, approach, interview, shortlist, client interviews, offer and accept.         Such detail ensures that we are fully aware of everyone in the market place and therefore assures that the best candidate is found.

Our research team enables us to identify, approach and attract people that aren’t necessarily actively looking for a new role. Candidates are often happy and successful in their current roles, and simply aren’t aware of other opportunities out there. These are the candidates that aren’t generally accessible through advertising or networking, and they certainly won’t be sitting on a database.

Our aim is to get a solid understanding of the client’s needs. Once it has been identified that a search is going to be the most suitable course of action for a role, and then our detailed process begins.

We have an experienced team of Consultants and Researchers who have in depth knowledge across a broad range of sectors, and have worked on assignments that range from roles at £50,000 up to £250,000. The roles can vary from Sales Managers for private leisure companies to Chief Executives of large financial institutions.
